About our Municipality
The West Coast area comprises 5 municipalities and three District Management Areas (DMAs) which are administered by the West Coast District Municipality (see map).
The five municipalities falling under the West Coast District Municipality are: Swartland Municipality with Malmesbury as administrative centre; Bergrivier Municipality with Piketberg as administrative centre; Matzikama Municipality with Vredendal as administrative centre; Cederberg Municipality with Clanwilliam as administrative centre, and Saldanha Bay Municipality with Vredenburg as administrative centre.
The West Coast DMAs consist of a national park (the West Coast National Park), a wilderness area (the Cederberg Wilderness Area) and an isolated area of low population density. DMAs are areas managed directly by the district municipality in contrast to being run by a local municipality. Read more…
